The Glenburn Hotel in Windermere is a good central location for touring the Lake District. Ideally situated within easy walking distance of Windermere village where there is selection of shops, bistros and restaurants. A little further down the road brings you to Lake Windermere in Bowness. There you can take one of the many boat trips on offer, visit the Beatrix Potter museum or spend the day just browsing the wonderful shops.

Parklands Country Club, our complimentary leisure club, is situated in Bowness. It has something for everyone and every age. It is easy to get away from the crowds too, with stunning countryside just a short distance away. A private car park at the front and rear of the hotel provides ample free parking for all rooms and for those on foot the railway station is within easy walking distance.

Directions from the M6:

Exit junction 36 and follow signs to Windermere on the A591. When you see the Windermere Hotel take the next left turning sign-posted "Windermere and Bowness on Windermere". Continue past the shops and carry on down New Road, heading towards Bowness and the lake. The hotel can then be found on the left hand side just before the park and stone clock tower.


Arrival : We have parking at the front entrance for 4 cars and parking at the rear of the hotel for 12 cars also. The car park is level tarmac for easy walking. We do not have a porter but we will be glad to assist you in taking luggage to your room. There are no steps up to the front entrance.

Public Areas : All the public areas within the hotel are on the ground floor apart from toilets. The restaurant, lounge, bar and are ground level. We have a wide variety of chairs and tables of different heights and back supports. We offer large print dinner menus on request and serve snacks from 1pm until 5 pm. Allergies and specific food tolerances are fully catered for, although we cannot guarantee against trace elements. We are very happy to change the menu for guests or to offer specifically requested dishes, equally, our chef is happy to discuss any specific requirements you may have.

Access from Public Areas to the Bedrooms : Unfortunately, due to the constraints of the original building we do not have a lift. The hotel bedrooms are located on the first and second floors. There are 13 steps to each floor. Internal access between the public areas and bedrooms is via stairs, all of which have railings. Some of these bedrooms are located next to the stairs leading to the public areas. The bedrooms are not suitable for wheelchair users, but are suitable for people with some reduced mobility, perhaps with walking sticks or crutches. Please ask which rooms would be most suitable on booking. We will happily rearrange or change bedroom furniture to meet specific requirements.
